By forcing the opponent to have the right interaction on turn one or two, we capitalize on the variance inherent in high-tier combo decks like Dimir Excruciator
The deck has a very minor Enrage subtheme, which used to be a main mechanic for Dinosaurs back in original Ixalan that they mostly moved away from in this set: I count only 12 cards that support the Enrage theme, either being enrage triggers like Ranging Raptors or payoffs like Wayta, Trainer Prodigy
Fearow was also a functional competitive card, with its Clutch attack providing a useful trapping effect that could prevent opponents from retreating, creating board states where Fearow could pick off damaged Pokemon
Imagine a mid to late-game N with Stoutland BCR Active
In other words, it got to a point where as soon as an Alrund's Epiphany resolved, the game was basically over
If you're interested in seeing me build around the other new commanders in the precon -- Zaxara, the Ezemplary or the partners Cazur, Ruthless Stalker & Ukkima, Stalking Shadow -- please let me know in the comments section and I may cover them in the future
