At the same time R&D was examining the color wheel, the creative text folks were reexamining the visuals of the game
Izzet is also one of the best color combinations in Magic: The Gathering for decks built around casting noncreature spells
The deck has all of these, with Dragon MageDragon Mage and Dream PillagerDream Pillager getting us more cards to play, Drakuseth, Maw of FlamesDrakuseth, Maw of Flames, Hoard-Smelter DragonHoard-Smelter Dragon, and Tyrants FamiliarTyrants Familiar handling the removal, and Savage VentmawSavage Ventmaw and Rapacious DragonRapacious Dragon giving us some extra mana
It has some late game potential , but matches up very poorly against a lot of cards and can be blanked rather easily

I think Overlord is the best due to its flexibility, but if you want more options, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, and Topiary Stomper are all quite reasonable
