Black silk was by far the most common for 'whalebone bonnets', or boned bonnets, but other colors such as white and green were sometimes seen. This ready made version was constructed using our new Whalebone Bonnet Pattern with the color inspired by a period newspaper ad. The bow on the front of this bonnet is the one we made and photographed for the new pattern instructions. She wore an old olive
