The gilding obviously is well worn but otherwise in very good condition

How completely gleeful he looks, striding and smiling and rubbing his hands together as if he's just hit the jackpot. Which seems exactly right in concert with the sign just behind him, marking the path to the Old Man of the Mountain View Point.
