The diagonal cuts on the opposite sides of the blocks allow for all sorts of  stacking possibilities

and of course they're also handy to have around for games of many kinds-- and also in lieu of a coin flip or rocks paper scissors to resolve all sorts of domestic matters:) This batch of 23 old celluloid ones range from caramel to cream in color

And quite a handsome looking box I think, with cartouche shape to the red and black grain painting on the lid, and then more of it on the sides. Inside, four open compartments two small, two larger and lid that lifts to a larger one. Found as pictured, with two old
