The whole thing was stained and mounted to a wooden panel

C. 1920s, this "Waltham" white chalk was produced for schools by the American Crayon Co. Nearly a gross of it still, largely unbroken (and I am not messing with it except to pack it carefully) in the original box with printed label on one side. The lid does not slide on and off but rather just sits flat and
