A few last 19th century ink and watercolor butterfly drawings today from a portfolio of half a dozen or so I purchased from a favorite dealer in the Hudson River Valley several weeks ago

The top latch on the front opens to reveal two interior trays (and an underside of the lid that is as ornately decorated as the exterior

referring to a person enlisted to guard the front entrance to a barracks and handle administrative matters in a unit

super solid and sturdy and heavy (weighs about 7 1/2 pounds)

Full Plate Tintype pottery basket "Keenly Sharply Vehement"Striking to see a young man with a lost eye uncovered by a patch, and the combination of it, together with his pinked cheeks and very oversized coat make him seem both deeply vulnerable but also somehow protected. (The very wide sleeves and extra long arms of that coat keep making me think of Joseph Beuys' felt suits.) To my eye there is also a sense of the surreal about it, with the fringe on the arm of the chair feeling of another (David Lynch ian)
