It is a bit hard to know where one layer of papering ends and another begins--it looks to me like the paper showing on the bottom half came after the (very lovely) hand-printed wallpaper on the top and sides--based on visible layering of the two in a few spots
earlyish 20th c I believe
and I think is quite a striking sculptural thing--with the potential to cast most excellent shadows
but also had an extensive collection of South American textiles

I'm guessing we're at the zoo here, watching some sort of animal climbing up there, maybe a monkey. Most compelling to me is the combination of postures of this woman in her stripes, hands and purse on hip, and the girl beside her, leaning on her crutch. And then some horizontal stripes to counter the vertical ones
