Man with Absurd Mustache, Gem Tintype in Original Potter's Patent 1865 Sleeve totem pole carving it measures 6" tall x

it measures 6" tall x 4 1/8" wide and in great condition

5 3/4" x 3 3/4" closed

but also terrific used as a serving plate

and I've found one other set somewhat similar that suggests that might have been used as calling cards of sorts (the size would be right)

Much of that pencil appears to be scribbles

Especially on the face of this quite young man. Maybe a fake mustache, I don't know, I think it is excellent whatever the case. Potter's Patent March 7, 1865 embossed on the sleeve, which refers to the die cut paper frame, patented by Ray W. Potter of New York. As mounted: 3 3 4" x 2 5 16". Tintype 1 1 4" x 3 4". Excellent condition.
