The first is the reel seat configuration
It lays #3 line beautifully and I've fished this same model throughout some of New England's best backcountry brook trout waters
The fighting butt itself is 4 1/2" in length when inserted into the bottom of the rod
Never a line has touched this reel
The only thing I could find on this was a little discoloration of the grip and a tiny amount of edge wear to the ring and the corner of the butt cap
Payne 204 Fly Rod 8'6" 3/2 #5 9' The first is the reelA nice Payne 204, 8'6" 3 piece and 2 tip for a #5 line. Good original condition. Shows signs of light use, i. e., some brassing of oxidation and some bag imprint, but the varnish is not gummy. All sections are full length with tight fitting ferrules. Wrapped brown with black edges. Agate stripper. Spanish cedar slide band seat. Butt cap stamped "E. F. Payne" and on the reverse, "Sold by H&D Folsom Arms Co, E. F. Payne Rod Co New York, Makers".
